England coach Gareth Southgate has resigned as the coach of the England national football team. Southgate resigned after losing to Spain in the Euro cup final. In a letter to the England Football Association this morning, Southgate announced his resignation as coach of the national team. ‘I am proud to be an Englishman who has played for England and coached for England. I consider it the honor of my life. It gave me everything.

‘I gave back as much as I could,’ Southgate said in his resignation letter. Now is the time for change. It’s time for a new lesson. Southgate has made it clear that Sunday’s Euro cup final against Spain will be my last game as England manager. The Independent reported that the England Football Board is considering former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp or current Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe to fill Southgate’s vacancy.

After eight years without any major titles, Southgate is also laying down the scepter of the England team’s title. Southgate has also managed to lead England to the finals of four major tournaments during this period. The 53yearold Southgate has made 102 appearances for England.

They won 61 matches and lost 17 matches. Southgate also holds the distinction of being the coach who has led England to the final of the European Cup twice in a row. Last year too, under Southgate, England played in the semifinals of the Euro cup. But when England lost on penalties against Italy that day, England lost 21 against Spain in the final match of the Euro cup yesterday.
